Do kids have too much homework?

In your opinion, do kids today seem to have “way too much” homework to do? or not enough?

  1. No grandkids to check in with B. I would applaud any teacher who ‘buries’ the kids in homework to do. I think too many kids slide through, fall through the cracks. They need to be challenged at a young age so they will develop the muscle to do the work required later on. Just the opinion of someone who reveres education/teachers/learning. I don’t know how many of us dare to speak out these days. We get smacked upside the side all the time for doing so! 🙁

  1. Kids these days don’t know what homework is. I grew up doing mock exams and loads of homework. This made it easier at examination time too.
Kids these days have far more freedom that they abuse it.

  1. It’s about right I suppose.

Homework should prepare them for the next class. It’s wrong to give too much written homework, because the teacher can’t be sure who actually does it.

  1. Definately not enough, I think. Today’s kids really seem uninterested in learning anyway, and would much rather be on Facebook or Twitter, or doing other equally unproductive things. it’s sad how much today’s young people waste away their time on frivolous things. Life’s too short. And if these kids are America’s future, I’m officially worried as heck.

  1. I don’t think that many of them get enough homework. I have noticed that kids (in the UK) who are in private school get far more homework to do than the kids in state schools. I went to private school and I use to get an average of 2-3 hours homework a night and my friends at state school only got around 30 minutes of homework a week. I’m not saying that kids should be getting lots of homework but I think that it should be more than 30 minutes a week.

  1. It’s not necessarily the amount, it’s more the timing. What happens is, there’s almost none for most of the term, then BOOM, four projects on at the same time due in the same week. If the government want smarter people, they should be smart themselves and stop bombarding students with more sports equipment than three Olympic Games.

  1. There shouldn’t be need for any. If you can’t teach the average kid the limited amount that is supposed to be taught in grade school within the 6 or so hours a day, something is really wrong. Kids should be outside being active after school.

  1. I figure, the more homework one gets.. the less the teacher did their job that day.
6 hours should be enough.. unless the teacher’s behind.

  1. Not enough. Having taken polls of first year students recently, the majority of them worked less than an hour per night. They are totally unprepared for the 20-30 hours per week of reading, projects and other homework they can expect freshman year at any decent college.
